Wake on Lan for Android gets a free version

Wednesday, December 7th, 2011

I have just uploaded a free version of Wake On Lan for Android to Google Marketplace which is an advert supported version.

It was about a year ago I finished the paid version and so far it has had 297 downloads. Lets see how long it takes the free version to get to that level.

Wake on Lan for OS X rejected…

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

Well it seems that Wake on Lan for OS X 1.6 won’t be out for a few more days after being rejected for “2.30 Apps that do not comply with the Mac OS X File System documentation will be rejected”

Seems like writing to ‘~/Library/Logs/Depicus’ is not allowed. Crazy because that is where log files are written for applications. Well appeal is in so lets see what happens.

Android sales

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

Just got past 100 sales. Not really selling like hot cakes but will crunch the numbers soon and see how it stacks up to iOS.

UPDATE

Sales figures for 8th Feb to 17th June (129 days)

Android sales – 101

iOS sales – 689

So that would suggest a 6.9:1 sales ratio.

Wake on Wrong….

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

Is it any wonder technology is so confusing … if there is one thing I know a bit about is Wake On Lan and I do my best to help as many people as possible to use the technology.

Recently I saw on Twitter a question from serverfault about WoL so I thought I would pop over and see if I could help.

Now this type of question I have been asked 100′s of times over the last 11 years. It’s always the same, I send a WoL signal to my machine and it wakes up for the first 15 minutes but after that nothing. Now 10 times out of 10 it is because the WoL packet was sent to the ip address of the machine. So what happens when that machine is turned off ? Well the machine no longer has that ip address although the ip address will remain in the arp cache of other equipment for a small amount of time.

So why am I whining like a little bitch ? Well look above and you will see a so called expert not only mark my answer down but edit the original question. So John Gardeniers has now made a very small part of the internet a bit more stupid. Thanks John.

Will it stop me from answering questions ? No, I leave the reader to make up their own mind but I cannot help but feel reputation on these kind of sites is diminished.
