Recover from a failed drive on a PERC 5/i Dell

Author: The Man

It’s Monday morning and I am in bed with flu and feel like shit, the phone rings “…got a server unable to boot in town..”

Thankfully this is a Dell and was raided up. Raid 1 for the OS and Raid 5 for the data. One of the Raid 1 drives had failed so the PERC 5/i was reporting it as a Foreign Configuration and was attempting to boot from the Raid 5 disk array.

How to fix.

1. On the Perc screen the first page press F2 and import the Foreign Configuration
2. Now don’t do what I did and try to reboot, pop over to the third screen and make sure you set the newly imported disk array as the boot drive.
3. Save and reboot

Easy really.
